Four steps, one of them occasional.
Wipe the surface with a dry or lightly damp cloth for everyday dust.
Rinse it under running water when it needs more, then let it air dry fully in a ventilated space.
Never use soap, detergent or any chemical cleaner. They leave a film across the pores and reduce the absorption you bought the mat for. No dishwasher, no washing machine, and do not submerge it.
Sand it when absorption slows, every few months depending on use. Wet the surface, work in a ventilated space, and sand lightly in circles with the included 320-grit paper until it feels evenly matte. Rinse and dry. Absorption returns fully. Sanding restores the mat rather than wearing it out.
