Care & Use

How to live—
with the mat.

The MEGEM mat requires less maintenance than any fabric mat you have owned. There are four things to know and one occasional task.

No action required.

Step onto the mat, step off. The surface absorbs water on contact and evaporates in seconds under normal bathroom conditions. The mat is dry before your next use.

Do not place it face-down or stack objects on top of it while wet. Allow the surface to breathe after use.

Wipe. Rinse. Dry.

For everyday dust and surface residue, wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth. For deeper cleaning, rinse under running water and allow to air dry completely in a ventilated space before returning to use.

Do not use soap, detergent, or chemical cleaners — these coat the pores and reduce absorption. Do not place in a dishwasher or washing machine.

If absorption slows.

Over time, mineral deposits from hard water or fine particles can partially block the surface pores. If you notice the mat absorbing more slowly than usual, lightly sand the surface with the included sandpaper using circular motions until the surface feels smooth and slightly matte again.

Rinse, dry, and return to use. Absorption will be fully restored. This is the only maintenance the mat will ever require.

Grip and protection.

The included anti-slip rubber pad sits between the mat and your floor. It holds by friction. It does not attach permanently. If it shifts over time, reposition it.

Rinse the pad occasionally with water and allow to dry before replacing. Do not fold or crease the pad as this reduces its grip surface.

Handle with intention.

Do not drop the mat onto hard surfaces from height. Diatomaceous earth is a mineral and can crack under sharp impact. Do not expose to prolonged direct sunlight, which can cause surface discoloration over time.

If storing for an extended period, ensure the mat is completely dry first. Store flat, not on its edge. Keep away from moisture.
